Missionary Update
February 2010
Week of February 15-19, 2010
Roy & Karen Kinney - Auburn, MA
It is a snowy day here and our JOY Club may get snowed out for the day. We’ll see as the Clubbers are planning on our Valentine celebration and the reminder of God’s love for them.
It’s been busy around here. Last week we had the privilege of keeping the Hayman Cousins while their parents were in Indiana for the NANC training. We also made a trip to Maine to visit with other family members. There were 14 of us at the grandparents (all 10 of the grandchildren); so everyone had lots of fun. It was good to see some of Roy’s family as well. Be in prayer for Dad Kinney as he just came home from the hospital and is now on oxygen all the time (something he is not too thrilled about:).
The Hansen boys were here all weekend to see the girls and participate in family life here. We enjoy their company. So, lots of people coming and going!
Sunday was a day to invite Relatives. The food theme was Vietnamese. What an exciting day as our Vietnamese families sang “This is the Day”. Gwen Bui played the violin with the special music. We’ll have more Vietnamese singing for sure (wow, can they sing out in their own language:). The Buis also shared their New Year Tree with us, giving everyone a traditional gift but with a Biblical theme. It was a neat day of growing together.
Next Sunday is a Brazilian theme as we invite our Associates. Delane will head up the dinner as she is from Brazil. Her husband Ron is a member. Please pray for Delane as she attends occasionally and also attends her Brazilian church. She needs to be able to worship with her husband.
Some of us have been battling colds and asthma. This can be a tough time of the year for Coralie and Caleb especially. We’d appreciate your prayers.
Schedule for the week:
Today: JOY Club 3:45-5:15
Wednesday: Prayer Meeting 6:30
Thursday: Ladies’ Fellowship at Terry Nordborg’s home at 6:30.
Friday: Men attend a Sportman’s Banquet at Easthampton (Pastor Frank Hayman is the speaker).
Saturday: Men’s breakfast at 8:00 AM.
Sunday: Invite Associates and bring Brazilian food.
Special Prayer:
1. David Moore - home from the hospital after having part of his toe removed.
2. Ron LaFlash - coming home from the hospital today after surgery.
3. Gregory - a young man with 3 children who contacted us for help. He lives near the church and Pastor Wells was able to minister to him last week.
4. Church Property (sale) - our contract is up with our Realtors and we need wisdom to know what to do next!
Thank you for your prayers, support, and encouragement. May God’s love comfort and encourage you as you serve Him.
Fred & Marie Henzler - Perry, GA
After our last e-mail, some have written that we need help. Well, we do have help in the jail; however, some are more of a burden than a help. We have church volunteers who have been coming in for years but they are from cults or charismatic. They often cause confusion. Fortunately, I was able to remove two of them shortly after I came in. One was from a cult and the other charismatic. I could not dismiss them on their theology but they were not obeying the rules set down by the major.
ANSWERS TO PRAYER.
I have written before of how God answered our prayers in sending the men we need.
CHAPLAIN ANDY BELL.
A man who was a faithful church volunteer in the jail; asked me how he could become a chaplain. He was a graduate of a fundamental Baptist seminary. I told him that he would have to go to the state’s chaplain’s school. He did and graduated in August of 2008. He was working in the personal department of a company. Part of his job was recruiting. A blessing of the slowing down of the economy was that the company was not hiring and he had time to be a great help in serving the entire sheriff’s office. He looked for another job and is now teaching in a local college and has classes day and night. With a family and responsibilities at his church; he is very busy.
NORM BROCKWAY.
Norm was a missionary with his wife for 25 years in Mexico. He had called the former chaplain at the jail to see if there would be any opportunities to serve there. After the chaplain retired, Norm called me. I was hesitant as the former chaplain no doubt was until I asked him if he was with a mission board. When he told me, I was ready to jump for joy. We had been praying for someone to work with the Hispanics. He has been having Bible studies and visiting in the pods. He is doing a great job but he is also trying to start a Hispanic church. Since they are here in the states, they have lost support. So they have been doing deputation. He is very busy too.
WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM.
These men are a perfect fit. God has been so good in bringing them our way but they are too busy to do what they are able and desire to do. Of course, Marie is a blessing at home as well as in the sheriff‘s office ministry.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE TEAM!
Dale & Marie Moore - Sebring, FL
On February 11, 2010, our oldest grandson, Kevin’s wife, Jennifer delivered a healthy baby. Owen Moore was added to our family. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long. Owen joins Aidan, Caleb, and Kira.
At Dale’s last meeting with the endocrinologist, the doctor was pleased with his blood work and said he would not need to see him for six months. He will have his yearly colonoscopy on February 17th, as well as an upper GI.
Dale is able to study, to preach and carry on even better than in times past. As we talk with our church family, they make the comment “he has gone from night to day.” What a blessing! God is Faithful!
Tim & Susan Heinrich - Tracy, CA
Thank you for your prayers concerning our Wednesday night location. We are very thankful to now be renting the school. Last night we had 56 people in the gym for a Family Movie Night. Our house and garage could not have held that crowd!
At least three of the families in attendance last night are direct results of contacts made through Resurrection Egg Hunts. Two salvation decisions this year in JOY Club have been made by children who first came to an Egg Hunt. God used this outreach last year to share the gospel with over 1,000 people in Tracy. We believe we are just beginning to reap the fruit from your labors, as you faithfully pray for this outreach.
As we prepare for another Egg Hunt, on April 2, 2010, we once again need your help. So far we have commitments for 5,000 eggs. Praise the Lord. We would like to have 12,000 for this event. Can you help us??
Some of our friends have been busy stuffing eggs with wrapped candy, small toys and gospel presentations. If you are interested in participating in this project, let us know.
Some of our friends have found it cost effective to order pre-stuffed eggs and have them shipped directly to Tracy. There is a family in Georgia that provides jobs for physically challenged individuals stuffing plastic eggs. Their prices and quality are quite good. They sell 1,000 filled eggs for $136(Shipping included). Orders must be received by March 5th to ensure Easter Delivery. You can call them at 1-800-647-3509 or click on the link below to go to their website. You can order directly from them, or send donations to us, and we will order from them. Please let us know, so that we can keep track of our totals!!
Also, last year the Gideons helped us give out 400 New Testaments at the Egg Hunt. If you are a business man who would like to participate in this project, please let us know. What a blessing to have children bring their New Testaments to Vacation Bible School and JOY Club.
Bill & Jan Paton, Chatsworth, IL
February 11, 2010
Many of you in your kindness have asked how Bill’s doctor appointment went yesterday. Thank you for your love and prayers. The appointment helped us a lot with understanding what is happening.
First of all, they changed his medication and asked why we didn’t call and tell the doctor that Bill was having some problems. We did call, but we couldn’t get in until yesterday. He told us that from now on if Bill was having any issues, to call and talk to his nurse and she would make sure that he saw the neurologist. Bill has been having these seizures too often. I started documenting them after Christmas. He has had six seizures since Dec. 31.
Bill has been having post mini stroke seizures. They are going to change his medicine and monitor how he will be doing in the future. He said that they have several differnt medicines and it is possible that it will take a little time to get it adjusted properly. These seizures are not caused by stress, but stress can trigger one.
We are so thankful that Bill has been able to continue his ministries, and our church people have been so kind and helpful. We are trusting God to do great things.
February 16, 2010
We had a wonderful day this past Sunday! We had a “Friend Day”, a Friendship Banquet, and we had the privilege to honor three of our faithful saints (Two are 85 and one is 87). We invited their families for the day. We had 65 in the morning service, and Bill had the privilege of preaching an evangelistic message. We are asking the Lord to bring things dear folk back to our services in the future and that many of them will come to know Christ as their Savior. Some of these grew up in this church, but are no longer attending church or are going to liberal churches in the area. If they were to trust Christ and/or get their lives right with the Lord, it could make a great impact on our community. Please pray for us as we follow up
Les & Betty Newell, Amlin, OH
Please prayer much for Betty. They sent her home from the hospital so weak that we can’t get her up for the bath room. Her daughter Kathy is exhausted caring for her, changing diapers and cleaning her up day and night. I am praying that God either strengthen and heal her or take her home. The situation is rather desperate and I am no help to her with my foggy headedness and dizziness. Death and glory are so inviting in these difficult times.
Roy & Fran Cupples – Fullerton, NE
Today Roy preached a message to encourage our married couples to rekindle the romance in their marriages. He gave some fine Biblical principles plus shared this very profound quote: “Man does not live by bread alone; he also needs to be buttered up!”
Praises and prayers requests:
* Even though the weather was bad this morning Ted and Kenny and Beth all came to church. Pray for their salvation.
* Wednesday I used a good Tootsie Roll Pop object lesson (found online) at JOY Club and gave an invitation. No one responded at that time but after JOY Club as we were cleaning up Cody (5th grader) came to me and said he wanted to talk. Roy and I had a Chamber meeting so I asked Mary to talk with him. He said he knew he was sinner and needed his sins forgiven. She used Scripture and asked him questions, etc., and Cody trusted the Lord as his Savior. Mary encouraged him to keep coming to club and SS and church if he could. Please pray for Cody and for us as we strive to help him grow in the Lord.
* Bill is getting ready to mud and tape and soon we’ll be painting the foyer addition.
* Roy and I were blessed by our “love one another” family. They are taking good care of us.
* This is Valentine’s Day and I want to praise the Lord for my good hubby and for the years God has allowed us to be married. We are so blessed!
* Roy was talking to a man recently and the man mentioned one of our church men - how different he is now than when he was younger (before salvation). Knowing Christ as Savior does make a difference!
* We are inviting folks to our Love One Another Banquet (Feb. 26). Please pray that we will have a good number of guests to hear the message.
* Please pray that DJ, Alyssa and Hailey will keep coming to SS/church.
* Ila Walker has been moved out of ICU and will, hopefully, be able to have rehab. Please keep praying for her and husband, Bruce.
Is there anything better than being a child of God? Nope! One of my favorite verses is: “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:13
