“THIS IS PREPARING YOU FOR OHIO!”
On December 18 and 19 we had the “Blizzard of 2009” - just about 2 feet of snow was dumped on us in a 24 hour period. Thankfully, we had finished moving most of our belongings to storage just hours before the snow started. Herb worked hard pushing the snow off the top of the trailer, we didn’t need all of that snow sitting on top of it. On Sunday, December 20 we had 12 people in our one morning service and then we invited the “entire congregation” to our home for dinner. Of course, since they brought shovels we asked for their help . . . somehow, our shovels were already in storage.
DEPUTATION DETAILS:
• Our support level is presently at $260.00 per month. We have one more paycheck here at Skyline Baptist Church and then it’s “living by faith”!
• We have four churches considering taking us on for support, just waiting on missionary budgets.
PACKING PROGRESS: Most of our furniture is gone, we are sleeping on air mattresses and things are being stored in several locations in the homes of our church family. We especially praise the Lord for Larry and Vicki Brooks, members of our church, who offered the use of several rooms and their garage for our storage needs. What a huge blessing! Our things could be stored for several years, until the Lord brings in the support that we need to permanently move to Lorain, Ohio.
BENJAMIN’S HOME: Our 21 year old son arrived home on December 17, just in time to help us do some major moving. His UPS experience came in handy as he really packed in the boxes and furniture into storage. We are seeking to enjoy our time together as a family as we know that from now on our lives will be greatly changed. He has three semesters of college to finish and plans to return here to Front Royal this summer to continue with his mowing business and working at Lowe’s.
TAYLOR’S TRAVELS:
January and February: In South Carolina and Florida March: Attending the Language Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica April and following: Traveling on deputation.
OUR COMMISSIONING:
Please attend our commissioning service on Sunday, January 3 (9:30 a.m.) here at Skyline Baptist Church. This is a turning point in our lives and to have you with us would make it even more special. (1200 John Marshall Hwy., Front Royal, VA 22630; 540-635-4212)
REMEMBERING OUR PURPOSE:
Planting: help our team of 7 establish a Hispanic (bilingual) Baptist church in Lorain, OH.
Partnering: assist established churches across the U.S. in developing Hispanic ministries.
Ed & Ruth Dean, Salem, OR – December 24, 2009
This will have to be our Christmas Greeting for 2009. Of course, we didn’t have one last year as Ruth had her accident on November 26th and was in the Hospital with a severe Concussion. Then, she was in Marion Estates Care Center and Four Seasons Care Center for a total of 8 months.
She has been home since July 20th and I’ve been taking to Therapy a couple times a week since. She is making good but slow progress. She plays the Prelude on the organ at Faith Baptist Church each Sunday AM, and it is a joy for her and the people are glad to have her back. At times she wants to be doing things but tires easily yet. She has a Care Giver who comes in for 4 hours on weekdays, and 1 hour Sunday AM to get ready for Church.
She uses a Walker most of the time but then goes to her cane so that is progress. For the 8 months I made daily trips to the Care Centers to be with her. It is so good to have her home all of the time now. The Lord has been good to us and we Thank you for your prayers on her behalf. She has written a few letters to her family but it seems to be a very trying task.
Richard got to go fishing a couple times and came home once with a 40# Chinook Salmon. He has to have help whenever he goes. Weather permitting he wants to go on the Coast to do some Crabbing soon. He will have his 60th Birthday next week. We celebrated our 66th Anniversary in November.
Merry Christmas to you all and our prayer is that you will not only realize that Christmas is the time we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ but will also tell others that He was born to die for our sins, so that we might have Life Everlasting by believing on Him and accepting Him as our Saviour.

Janelle made it in from Guam safely on Saturday so we are enjoying her. We hope to see Jared in the middle of the week, though we haven’t heard from him lately (from Guatemala).
Sunday was a good day, though we had a few families gone for the holidays, we still had 46 in attendance. One lady came to our house for dinner last week and then came to church on Sunday morning. She has been struggling with depression but is making an effort to get out to church. Another lady came for the first time Sunday morning and was interested in a visit after Christmas. The man that trusted Christ is gone for the holidays so I will have to pick up with him when he gets back. We voted Sunday to send $1,000 to a church plant in Surprise, AZ, Hope Baptist Church, that is trying to raise money for a down payment on a building. That is our way of saying thanks to the Lord for His great blessing to us these last six months and to start thinking proactively about church planting beyond us.
On the home front, they broke ground for our house, dug the basement and today are starting to put up the forms for the concrete. The ETA for completion is late March, early April.
It has been a blessing serving the Lord through the transition time. By His grace He enables and equips in such a way that we stand amazed. Jesus is far more than just a baby in a manger and we are privileged to be able to serve Him.

I hope that your Christmas week was a blessing. I know that many of you had family home like us. We have had a great time with our kids, Julene, Jared, and Janelle. Last night Jared and Janice played guitar and Janelle played the Yuke has we sang together at our prayer service. Janelle also gave her testimony and we had a great service. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and Janelle will leave Wed and Jared on Fri. We continue to pray that God will protect and shield our kids from the enemy.
Thankfully, we had great attendance on Sunday as we set new records in both services. Up to this point, since we arrived, the highest attendance has been 50. Yesterday we had 58 in the Worship service and 61 in our SS hour. We did have some family visitors but we also had an equal number of regulars gone. Please pray that this numerical growth would be paralelled by spiritual growth. Pray also that we as a family would have the wisdom to know who to spend time with and what to emphasis. Please pray for our own spiritual growth during this time as well. We are facing new challenges and need to make sure that we respond in ways that will glorify the Lord.
Thanks again for your prayers. It means a lot. I know that we say that often but it is true! Let’s end the year well!

Prayer Project - Participants Needed
We are searching for 20 individuals that will pray daily from now until January 9, 2010 for a phone campaign that we are hoping will grow our core group. This phone campaign will call 50,000 households that surround the center of our target area. Our hope is that we can grow our group not just in size but also in diversity. Our desire is to be a multi-ethnic church that looks like the people that make up our target area. This means we need to be a church that has African-Americans, Mexicans, Indians, Koreans, Filipinos, Poles, Chinese, Pakistanis, and more. We want our church to be a pre-taste of the heavenly multi-ethnic worship that we look forward to participating in for eternity.
If you are willing to commit to praying daily for this phone campaign will you let us know? Our three prayer requests for this need are ...
1. That God would use this effort to grow His church.
2. That at least one African-American, Indian, South-East Asian, and Eastern-European family would join our core group because of these efforts.
3. That God would allow strategic individuals for future ministries to be called by God through this campaign to be a part of our new church.
The dates for the calling are January 4-9, 2010. If you would like to be one of our daily prayer team members for this effort please click this link scott@scottandbrooke.info to send us an email.
Christmas Carols With the Neighbors
**UPDATE**
We had a good time with the Asian family who lives upstairs. We enjoyed getting to know them and their son. The husband spoke with me about some of their Buddhist family traditions. However, he said that he is not practicing except for a few of the more important dates - New Years and the start of summer. I need to study more to understand his religious background.
We were able to give them a Christmas tract, The Carols Story, which shares the gospel and also contains a CD of Christmas carols. Please keep praying for gospel contacts in our neighborhood.
Prayer Project Update – December 28,, 2009
We have received half (10) of our goal of 20 people to pray daily for our calling campaign that takes place the first full week of January. If you would like to join this group please click the scott@scottandbrooke.info link to send us an email. We need your prayers!
Fred & Marie Henzler, Perry, GA – December 27, 2009
SUNDAY, Dec. 27.
I went to the Women’s Pod with Marie. She led them in Christmas Carols and I preached on the real meaning of Christmas: God’s unspeakable gift. Five women showed interest in trusting Christ.
MONDAY
We were at the main Sheriffs’ Office. We talked to a number of people there including two of the department Captains. We then went to the Juvenile Center and talked to several people there including the Captain.
We also visited the Cyber Crime Lab. We then went to the 911 Center. We always get a warm welcome there, especially, from the Captain.
TUESDAY
We both gave out Bibles and books in the morning and talked to inmates. Marie talked to six women, four that trusted Christ on Sunday. HOW MUCH FUN CAN AN OLD MAN HAVE? A lot. In the afternoon our Sheriff, the Chief Deputy and the Colonel had to qualify. So I went to the firing range with them. All three did very well and were within a few points of each other. Then they let me try. I fired 17 rounds with no misses. 13 tens and 4 fives.
IN THE EVENING.
We both had our Bible Studies.
NEW YEARS EVE.
We will both be doing “ride a longs” It should be busy. When we were with the Perry Police Department, we rode on N.Y. Eve but it was dull. The whole county should be interesting. Please pray for us, not only for our safety but also for the “ride a longs”. They are a great place to witness.
