A Weekend with a BCP Church Planting Team
I have just experienced a great weekend with the Kinneys, church planters in Auburn, Massachusetts. The joys of being with our church plants cannot be duplicated. The church work in Auburn has not been easy. Actually, there was discussion last year about ending our efforts in Auburn, but God directed otherwise. Since that discussion, people have been attending on a regular basis and the church is growing. It was my privilege to visit, preach, and fellowship with this core group of believers. I was especially blessed to hear the testimonies of many new believers. It was thrilling to meet Danny, a mechanic who lived worldly without Christ, but who now lives godly in Christ. He was invited by Romeo, one of the first men to join the church. Danny said he would visit and he did. He started reading a Bible and could not get away from the powerful truth of sin and the sacrifice of Christ. He believed and was gloriously saved!
Roy and Karen pastored two churches before committing to church planting. I am humbled by their willingness to serve. Brother Kinney showed me multiple needs for church planting in the immediate area. I will be contacting some students who will soon graduate from Bible college and ask them to seriously consider joining this team, first to develop Hampton Street Baptist and then to plant other churches in the near future.
Another great blessing was to be a guest in the Kinney home. Amelia gave up her room for me. The five Kinney children are wonderful teenagers. It was a blessing to see them sing together, love each other as sisters and brothers, and to observe them reading their Bibles devotionally. I was reminded of the biblical requirement in Timothy that a bishop (pastor) must have his home in order to qualify for service. Roy and Karen sure have their home in order. I commend them.
Les and Ida Wells are Apollos missionaries (semi-retired) with Baptist Church Planters and team members with the Kinneys. It was so good to see them. A great deal of their time is spent serving in the children’s ministry. I met a Vietnamese family they invited who are coming regularly. Les and Ida have served in church planting for many years. I greatly appreciate their faithful service.
