President's Letter

January 2010

I received a wonderful blessing in December.  It came unexpectedly.  It did not come in a box nor did it come via someone else.  It came with very little effort and via the telephone.  What was it?  Let me tell you.

I decided to call as many BCP retired missionaries as possible and wish them a Merry Christmas.  I must say that this experience may prove to be the highlight of the month.  It was such a wonderful joy to visit with these dear saints of the Lord and hear first hand what God is doing in their lives.  What blessed me the most was the ministry reports they shared.

Let me share some of them:
• Bud and Eunice Johnson.  Bud is filling the pulpit at Mammoth Spring, AK.  He is having a great time preaching and recently baptized a thirteen-year-old girl.
• Bill and Joy Amacher- Bill is eighty-two and just accepted another six year term as deacon.  They both serve in multiple capacities at their church and are rejoicing in the Lord.
• Bill and Celia Heydens- They are not retired but have every right to be.  Bill is recovering from a broken hip but was excited that he would be in the pulpit on Sunday.  I won’t tell you how old the Heydens’ are, but…..
• George and Emily Elliott- What a blessing it was to hear they teach Bible lessons to children at seven day care facilities each week, and are they excited.
• Jack and Dorothy Farley- Jack serves at the Brig each week and shares with over one hundred men the gospel.  He says there are no restrictions.  He told me twice that he is expecting the Lord to return any moment.  Even so come, Lord Jesus.

That’s just a few of the testimonies.  Their testimonies reminded me that the “call of God” has no time table.  There is no “real retirement” for the man of God.

I am sixty-one and at times wonder how long this mind and body will maintain the schedule I demand from it.  On that note, I have no crystal ball to look into and determine the future.  But this one thing I know, as long as the Lord gives me breath, I will seek to fulfill the call He has on my life.

Are you retired?  What are you doing to serve the Lord?  There is a place for all to serve.  How about a Bible study at the local nursing home, day care center, jail, campground, at a little suffering church, or as a chaplain for the emergency crew in town?  Let’s redeem the time!
