On Sunday, May 17, 2015, over 300 people gathered for Dedication Day for Boardman Baptist Church in Youngstown, OH.  It was a special day of celebration for the congregation as they have been praying for this day for a long time.  Following the morning worship, the dedication service began with a Victory March of “those who have worked with their hands to make this building a reality” and ended with a catered “celebration meal.”

The service included special music by soloists, the choir and the children of Boardman Baptist and a powerpoint presentation relating the story of the completion of the building project. The many volunteers from several states were recognized for their valuable part in the completion of the building.   The architects and contractors from the community were recognized and appreciation expressed. Dr. David Warren, the state representative for the OARBC, Baptist Church Planters’ President Steve Little, ChurchCare Executive Director David Whipple, and former pastor of BBC Dr. Terry Smith each addressed and challenged the congregation.  BCP builder Dale Murphy and former BCP president, Dr. David Little, closed the service.

All who participated assigned Glory to God. Throughout the celebration God was thanked for answers to prayer, provision of safety, provision of finances, and the opportunity to give testimony to the community.

The service included a choral reading called the Act of Dedication:

Pastor:  This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

People:  I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord,”

Pastor: There is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

People: Blessed be the Lord: may His glory fill the whole earth!

Pastor:  Let us therefore, as we are assembled, solemnly dedicate this place to its proper and sacred uses.  To the glory of God the Father, who has called us by His grace; To the honor of His Son Who loved us and gave Himself for us; To the praise of the Holy Spirit, Who illumines and sanctifies us;

People:  we dedicate this house.

Pastor: For the hallowing of family life; For teaching and guiding of the young; For the perfecting of the saints;

People: we dedicate this house.

Pastor: For the conversion of sinners; For the promotion of righteousness; For the extension of the kingdom of God;

People: we dedicate this house.

Pastor: In the unity of the faith; In the bond of Christian brotherhood; In charity and good will to all;

People:  we dedicate this house.

Pastor: In gratitude for the labors of all who love and serve this church; In loving remembrance of those who have finished their course; In the hope of a blessed immortality through Jesus Christ our Lord;

People:  we dedicate this house.

Together:  We now, the people of this church and congregation, compassed about with a cloud of witnesses, grateful for our heritage, sensible of the sacrifice of our fathers in the faith, confessing that apart from us their work cannot be made perfect, do dedicate ourselves anew to the worship and service of Almighty God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
